Che cosa è amor (“You who know what love is”)2014oil on panel
24" x 24", unframed, 30" x 30" framedNFS“Che cosa è amor” is one in a recent series based on those water doors and passageways in Venice that end so theatrically at the water’s edge. The series is titled with phrases from Italian opera. This painting – with its bed sheets airing in the bright sun and its trash bags waiting in deepest shade – takes its title from Cherubino’s aria in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro “Voi che sapete che cosa è amor” (“You who know what love is”).
